WP3
Real-time monitoring, control, automatization, and digitalization of the CS process

Objective

WP3: Real-time monitoring, control, automatization, and digitalization of the CS process: there is a crucial lack of knowledge regarding shape accuracy and control in CS, that is essential for advancing CS in AM, remanufacturing and repair. Besides, real-time monitoring of deposition process is usually open loop. This limits the applicability of CS over a wide range of applications making control cost-intensive and laborious. Experimental and computational tools and data-driven models can be at the forefront to meet these challenges. A dedicated effort is required to decrease the waste and revolutionize the way CS deposition is currently used in manufacturing industry. This WP promotes process monitoring, control and digitalization to improves geometrical precision through implementing advanced monitoring systems, mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence (AI), and robot programming: (DC5-SchuF) – starting from a geometric model for CS repair, using experiments and AI to generate automated tool paths able to predict the deposition geometry before spraying and correct the paths if needed; (DC6-TAU) – developing automatized CS using advanced real-time monitoring and control techniques, (DC7-UB) – developing informed robotic control systems and new spray strategies to enhance shaping precision both for AM and repair and (DC8-POLIMI) – Real-time optical monitoring for shape control and correction.
