RESEARCH PROJECT
DC2
PARTICLE/SUBSTRATE HIGH-SPEED INTERACTIONS
Objective
- To develop an experimental setup for particle impact high-speed visualizations with a high-speed camera
- To understand the impact process and key particle/substrate interactions for a range of materials relevant to the target applications
- To resolve in real-time the plastic and elastic deformation process using real CS powders
Expected Results
- Define required scientific conditions for particle bonding (different material pairs of metals, metal-ceramics, cermet)
- To link the initial powder/substrate microstructure requirements with optimum bonding conditions, based on the observations
- To develop a computer model, validated by high-speed imaging, capable of capturing the microstructural evolution during the impact
Enrolment
TCD within the School of Engineering Structured Programme
