DC2
PARTICLE/SUBSTRATE HIGH-SPEED INTERACTIONS

Objective

  1. To develop an experimental setup for particle impact high-speed visualizations with a high-speed camera
  2. To understand the impact process and key particle/substrate interactions for a range of materials relevant to the target applications
  3. To resolve in real-time the plastic and elastic deformation process using real CS powders

Expected Results

  1. Define required scientific conditions for particle bonding (different material pairs of metals, metal-ceramics, cermet)
  2. To link the initial powder/substrate microstructure requirements with optimum bonding conditions, based on the observations
  3. To develop a computer model, validated by high-speed imaging, capable of capturing the microstructural evolution during the impact

Enrolment

TCD within the School of Engineering Structured Programme

Planned Secondment

  1. POLIMI (A), Dr. Bagherifard, Month 16 (4) micromechanical analysis of the undeformed and deformed single and multiple particles/splats
