RESEARCH PROJECT
DC11
FEEDSTOCK POWDER MODIFICATION AND ITS EFFECT ON DEPOSITION MECHANISM
Objective
- To understand the gas atomized microstructure of different metallic powders
- To homogenize the microstructure of gas atomized powder through customized complex, multistage heat treatments
- To optimize the mechanical properties of CS deposits obtained from the modified powders
Expected Results
- A detailed understanding of the phases, grains, strains and orientation of a gas atomized metallic powder
- Investigating the effect of heat treatment on homogenization and strain distribution of the powder
- Evaluating the bonding mechanisms of a modified feedstock
- Mechanical characterization of deposits prepared from modified feedstock
Enrollment
Planned Secondment
- RR PLC (NA), Dr. Norton Month 34 (4) using the modified metal powders for AM and repair samples and analyzing the bonding state
